Freedom Sculpture

The one thing that everybody wants is to be free… not to be managed, threatened, directed, restrained, obliged, fearful, administered, they want none of these things they all want to feel free, the word discipline, and forbidden and investigated and imprisoned brings horror and fear into all hearts, they do not want to be afraid not more than is necessary in the ordinary business of living…. The only thing that anyone wants now is to be free, to be let alone to live their life as they can, but not to be watched, controlled and scared, no no, not.
~Gertrude Stein, 1943

Vision

An athletic community in which athletes, coaches and administrators can openly express their sexual orientation and gender identity or expression without the threat of retaliation or sabotage.
What We Do
The br{ache the silence campaign was created to give those seeking acceptance a platform to launch their voice and gain support. We aim to increase the positive visibility of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Allied role models within the intercollegiate athletic community through our collection of stories and campus integration initiatives. Our goal is to shift the focus from homophobia to inclusion. We hope this platform will reach every institution, athletic department, and sports program in the country. Inclusion is a vital part of growth in athletics, the communities who support it, and the leadership development of future generations. Regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, all are welcome to sign our Pledge and help br{ache the silence.
